"Sewing is my passion and I feel great satisfaction when I have been able to help another person make the most of their wardrobe, whether a straightforward jeans hem shortening or a more complex wedding dress alteration."

My name is Katharine Smith. I trained in Fashion and Textiles at Bath College of Higher Education (now Bath Spa University) and now have over 30 years of sewing and creative textiles experience.  Recently specialsing in bridal-wear techniques, I worked for 3 years with my good friend and colleague, costumier Virginia Crawford to provide Bath brides and bridesmaids with a full alteration service.

In 2018 we relocated to a village on the beautiful Teign estuary. I now offer clothing repairs and alterations, as well as pulling a mean pint at our historic pub in Bishopsteignton, the Old Commercial Inn!

I have a keen interest in environmental issues and believe we need to take responsibility for conserving the Earth's resources.  I will be offering sewing workshops and drop-in sessions at the pub to show that anyone can repair and adapt the clothing they already have.

I can also help with making, altering and repairing special occasion wear such as prom outfits, fancy dress, theatrical and re-enactment costumes.  Click the link below to find out more.
